In this competitive era, a curriculum Vita (CV) is more than
a list of past institutions and jobs. Most times when asked for a CV, most
people just scribble a list of schools and companies they have worked for. As
short and brief as a CV is supposed to be, its content speaks volumes. A CV
tells your employee or admissions committee how flexible you are, your
leadership abilities, your qualifications, your networking ability, your
research ability and how resilient you are.
When an employee or admissions committee picks up your CV,
they are looking for;
-Your educational qualifications
-Research and projects you have carried out in the past.
-Linguistics; the languages you speak.
-Computer literacy
-NGO’S, CLUBS or Causes you participate in
-Hobbies: gardening, exercising, sports
Most people usually have little or nothing to write on their
CV, some make up stuff to fill their CV. It is never too late to start building
a CV. A good way to start is to join a club, NGO or organization. These are
forums to gain skills which will aid you in building your CV. Are you a
university graduate still waiting on a job? Instead of feeling depressed, start
building a great CV. Learn a new language, take new computer courses, volunteer
for an organization. Are you a high school or secondary school student on
holidays? Use that time to add to your CV. Make hay while the sun shines. Do
what little you can now, so when the jobs come knocking; those employees will
welcome you with smiles.
GOOD LUCK!!!
