NEW YEAR NEW BEGINNING

Posted on with 2 comments

Another year closes. What were you goals, what were your resolutions? Did you fulfill them? Will this year just like all other years in your life or did something change? What do you feel when you look at how you spent the year? Years come and go. Time passes. If you achieved your goals last year, great, go after new and higher goals. Tomorrow should leave you better than yesterday. If you did not attain the expected goals, don’t stop trying…a new year, a new opportunity is set before you so you can do it right. The years offer us pages to write the story of our life. There will be ups and downs, but like every story there will be a hero and that’s you. As you celebrate a new year, irrespective of what you are feeling, save enough hope for 2016…hope will make a difference….

NEW YEARS DAY IS EVERY MAN'S BIRTHDAY

DON’T LET ANY ONE WALK ON YOUR MIND WITH THEIR DIRTY FEET

Posted on with No comments

We exist in a world that is growing bitter and angry every day. Most people today have just succumbed to the bitterness of this world and in turn turned to bitter angry people. A child is born with a beautiful soul, spirit and mind. A child is born as a bundle of dreams, gifts and talent ready to be somebody. It is sad however that as an innocent child grows, he/she comes to face a world of people that will tell him or her;
-You are not beautiful enough
-Your talent is a waste of time
-Your dreams are impossible
-you are worthless

The mind is a beautiful and powerful thing. True enough we often grow into the image of what has been conceived in our minds. The people we surround ourselves with will create an image of us. We ourselves will create an image of us. Is someone walking all over your mind with their dirty feet? Is someone constantly giving you only a negative image of yourself? Such people are just people who allowed their minds to be walked upon by bitter people. In order to grow and nurture our lives, we at some point have to rid ourselves of persons who give us only negative images of ourselves. We all possess a beauty about us, a gift and a star within. That star won’t shine if you allow your life to be muddied by the dirty feet of some angry person. I won’t let anyone walk on my mind with dirty feet.
God Bless!
Stay you!

POVERTY

If I understood my history lessons well, then I believe in the time of the early man the word poverty had not been born. I guess one did not need a number of trees or caves to fit into that society at a time. The growing hunger and quest for better things have carved a materialistic world in which the lust for distinction has crafted millions of people called ‘poor’.

By poor I don’t include the following category:

-          Not being able to own a car

-          Not being able to own your own house

-          Not being able to afford international holidays in fancy hotels

-          Not being able to belong in a certain class…

The list can not be fully exhausted. I won’t be surprised if three quarters of the world’s population considered themselves poor.

Do you know that the mere coat that has sat in your closet for years untouched could serve as shelter, a blanket, a bath robe, and a dress to someone out there?

Do you know that there exist people who give thanksgiving should they have that pair of shoes you dumped in the can because it was not a recent design?

…

I could go on and on. I have heard and even said that if one is poor, perhaps they were lazy or are paying for something they did. We have these many fancy reasons we blind our hearts with. Sometimes we just ignore with the excuse that we don’t have enough to make a difference in their lives. I can go back in time and I remember a world built of communities. There was time when men were their brother’s keepers.

There are all kinds of poverty in our world; financial poverty, spiritual poverty, emotional poverty, etc…As the quest for materialism accelerates, brotherhood deteriorates. The world is growing into a jungle of animals fighting to crush each other to grab more. No matter how much men tend to grab, their thirst only increases.

It started as a quest for better living and later progressed to materialism and later the quest for power which has left millions poor financially, morally, spiritually and emotionally. As years go by the gap between poor and rich widens. Gradually an insignificant minority will come to exist which will control the world according to its whim because it won the power tussle.

Unless we realize our priorities are out of place and start bridging the gap; we will one day wake as slaves to the ones who won in the power tussle. The world belongs to no one. It is just a place left in our stewardship. The diversity of the planet is enough to let us understand that our existence depends on us working together for the common good of everyone.

When you walk out your door and see that guy who has been living on the streets for years, look again with concern because that may be you if that business deal goes bad and the bank claims you house. As hard as it is to build all the mansions that lift your nose in the air, like Rome all can be gone in a day. No gift given with love ever returns void. There are suffering people out there; people who have not had shelter for years, children raised in the cold of the streets, families going on days without food. How much do we have that means absolutely nothing to us? How much do we just throw away? Do we intentionally close our eyes? Get down your high horse and hit the streets. Go to the poor of poor. Open your heart and eyes. Your coat can give warmth to someone through a harsh, cold and lonely night.  A loaf of bread can hold a stomach long enough for someone to get a miracle. Every human being deserves a life, a love, company, and hope.

Poverty is real. We all need to help. Will you?

ONE UNDER THE SUN

Posted on with No comments

The world is one word,

One place

Held by a single cord

A beautiful fabric,

One of many colors

One race;

It’s called humanity

When the sun

Gazes on the earth,

It sees neither white

Black or brown

But the color of the world

The beauty of nature

And the purity

 Of humanity

The sun knows no color,

The rain no race

The wind whispers to all

Humanity is a beautiful rainbow

In love,

We must embrace

The difference

That yet makes us one

SELFLESSNESS

Today I woke up depressed. I stayed in bed calculating my problems. I laid there thinking and thinking. I thought about what I was studying, the project I was working on, and I worried if I would be taken into the masters program I had applied to. I then studied and went into town to pick up groceries. I go home to cook some food and while cooking I was listening to the news. Something about the whole day so far got me into a conversation with myself.

On the news was this Ethiopian man who was migrating to Saudi Arabia through Syria and had gotten severely burnt by a bomb blast. His lung and skin had been deeply burnt. There was a man whose every single breath was painful. I had woken this morning to breathe with ease. I was in school; I have things I could work on. I had my legs intact and I could go to the mall and had money to shop for groceries.

Yes my life is not perfect. Yes I do have many things that do make me sad. However, I realized the things I have that I worry about are gifts others lack. Someone out there may be worried about not having water at all and am worried if the water I have is clean enough. Someone hasn’t eaten in days and I am worried if my food tastes good. Someone has never worn a shoe in their life and I am worried if my shoes are of the latest fashion. Hilda what are you worried about? How important are those worries? I just realized I am being selfish. The selfishness we carry in our individual lives is representative of what is going on in the world. Above the color of skin, where we come from and all the lies the media wants to paint; the bottom line is the problem with this world is selfishness.

Selfishness is about me. Selfishness is having the world and pulling scraps out of the mouths of those who have nothing. Selfishness is consciously subduing someone else in order to create a gap of power. Selfishness is gaining image and prestige at the expense of starving and killing innocent children. How much do we throw away, how much do we waste on ourselves? What values are we passing to the next generation? Are we going to teach our kids that it is perfect to grab all you can even if it means walking over the weak? The media and the new movement of the world are creating hoarders instead of sharers. The philosophy of ‘ME’ will create wars, violence and crime. The world is a community of individuals and not individuals in a community. Selflessness will break the barriers of culture, color and religion. As long as you bleed as I bleed and cry as I cry; I should be able to share your pain.

I am on a journey to leave beyond the bounds of me. In these hard times as we live from day to day. Please do remember those who need what might appear as nothing to you. Someone is one word away from a suicide; someone is one hug away from breaking down. Let us look beyond ourselves and bridge the gap.
